Paintings & Prints
This gallery contains a selection of original paintings, prints, and books from our family collection.
Brownie travelled widely with her second husband, John, leading an almost nomadic lifestyle full of adventure.
She absorbed each country with gusto. Although she was frequently commissioned to paint portraits of other people’s children, she found this restricting in both situation and movement and was much happier sitting in a town square with a small paper-pad and brush or biro.
She watched and rapidly drew studies of rowdy boys kicking a ball on a square in a French village, little girls selling their paltry wares from table to table in Mexico, children in Jamaica carrying huge loads of fruit, and travellers around their campfires in Ireland.
In no time at all she would have curious onlookers peering over her shoulder, watching her work, and she would start to make new friends.
