Brownie Downing’s studies of indigenous Australian children were the first to become prints, and some of her most well-known artworks.

The first run of original paintings would sell for a dollar a piece and, although she painted very quickly, she was inundated with work. She and her first husband Ronald, who was by now her manager, decided to test the waters by printing three small originals. They proved so successful that soon they added many more and branched into the ceramic market.
