Brownie Downing was originally inspired to paint ballet dancers after waching her sister Sonia taking lessons. She would often go with her and sit in a corner to sketch away. It is interesting to see her study both the movement of the dancers and the impish view of the children at play.

Many of these ceramics were given to the girls at ballet-schools in Australia as end-of-year presents or prizes.
